Abstract

The incorporation of Artificial Intelligence into educational contexts has expanded the possibilities for developing resources capable of monitoring student performance, providing immediate feedback, and adapting learning activities and pathways. Among these technologies, Intelligent Tutoring Systems stand out as tools designed to use information about students and their interactions with digital environments to define differentiated teaching strategies. This article aims to analyze the possibilities and limitations of using Intelligent Tutoring Systems as resources for personalized learning in elementary and secondary education. The study adopts a qualitative, bibliographic, and exploratory approach, based on books, scientific articles, theses, dissertations, and institutional documents addressing personalized learning, Artificial Intelligence in education, and adaptive educational systems. The analysis connects classical theoretical perspectives on learning and individualized tutoring with contemporary studies on Artificial Intelligence and Education, considering the pedagogical, technological, ethical, and social dimensions involved in the use of these tools. It is argued that Intelligent Tutoring Systems can contribute to identifying learning difficulties, adapting activities, monitoring student performance, and providing individualized feedback; however, their capacity for personalization does not encompass the full complexity of learning processes. The study concludes that these technologies show greater educational potential when used to support pedagogical practice while preserving teacher mediation and taking into account concrete conditions of access, infrastructure, professional training, and diversity within Basic Education.
