Abstract

Street running has become a widely practiced sport for people looking for quality of life, well-being, and health. However, improper practice without physiotherapy supervision can lead to musculoskeletal injuries, especially in the lower limbs. In this context, physiotherapy plays a key role in preventing and managing these injuries, providing safety and better performance for the runner. The study aims to understand the importance of physiotherapy in preventing injuries in amateur runners, identifying common risk factors and main preventive strategies used. It is a field study, descriptive and exploratory, with a qualitative-quantitative approach, conducted online through the Google Forms platform. Thirty amateur runners participated, and the data were collected through a questionnaire containing sociodemographic information, details about running practice, and the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries. The data were organized and analyzed in Microsoft Excel and presented in tables and figures. The results showed a high occurrence of running-related injuries, with shin splints being the most frequent. Factors associated with the occurrence of injuries were also identified, mainly the lack of warm-up and stretching and the improper use of footwear. There was low adherence to preventive physiotherapy follow-up, despite runners having a positive perception of the importance of physiotherapy in preventing injuries and improving sports performance. It is concluded that physiotherapy plays an important role in injury prevention, contributing to safer, more functional, and more efficient running practice.
