Abstract

This chapter examines how students of Rural Youth and Adult Education (EJA Campo) in Paripiranga, Bahia, construct meaning about their individual and collective trajectories through narrative practices in the school context. Grounded in a critical and decolonial perspective, the study explores the role of memory and life narratives as pedagogical and political tools that foster identity, belonging and challenge epistemic hierarchies imposed on rural territories. The research adopts a qualitative and interpretative approach of a bibliographic nature, drawing on a review of studies on literacy, decoloniality and rural education. The discussion suggests that rural schooling can operate as a space of symbolic resistance, where silenced experiences gain pedagogical legitimacy. The study concludes that educational practices centered on listening and memory promote critical literacy processes and strengthen rural education as an act of epistemic justice.
