Abstract

The study addresses the impacts of obstetric violence on the physical and mental health of women during the puerperium through a literature review that compiles scientific evidence on the consequences of this form of violence throughout the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. The research aimed to analyze the main physical and psychological impacts resulting from disrespectful and abusive practices during childbirth care, as well as to discuss the importance of humanized care and the role of healthcare professionals in preventing such occurrences. The methodology consisted of consulting scientific articles, books, official documents, and publications indexed in national and international databases, selected according to relevance and timeliness criteria. The results showed that obstetric violence is associated with an increased risk of physical complications, difficulties in postpartum recovery, impairment of the mother-infant bond, and a higher incidence of emotional disorders, such as anxiety, postpartum depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is concluded that addressing this issue requires the implementation of humanized healthcare practices, the strengthening of public policies focused on women's health, and the continuous training of healthcare professionals to ensure safe, ethical, and rights-based care.
